Job Title: Classroom Assistant I

Join our team at Family Services Association as a Classroom Assistant I, providing care and supervision for children in our care. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about early childhood education and are looking to make a positive impact in the lives of young children.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide visual supervision and ensure the health and safety of all children, adhering to Title 22 and Title 5 regulations.
  • Participate in high-quality transitions, ensuring a smooth and organized arrival and departure process for children and families.
  • Engage in Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) interactions throughout the day, facilitating social skills development and scaffolding learning experiences.
  • Implement curriculum activities as assigned and complete DRDP assessments under the guidance of a supervising teacher.
  • Participate in meal and snack processes, including family-style serving and bottle or infant food feeding as applicable.
  • Document observations, collect work samples, and participate in classroom record keeping, including injury or health reports as assigned.
  • Monitor and participate in toileting and diapering routines, and provide staff breaks and take children to the restroom as needed.
  • Participate in classroom planning, including the creation of activities for the learning plan under the guidance of a supervising teacher.
  • Ensure a safe environment for children, free of hazards, and participate in opening and closing routines as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of family and children's information and exhibit positive dispositions of caring, support, acceptance, and fairness toward all children and families.
  • Attend trainings and staff meetings as assigned and report any concerns to an appropriate supervisor.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  1. Minimum of current enrollment in or completion of one core early childhood education college course.
  2. Continual enrollment in a minimum of one course per semester until the 12 core early childhood education units are obtained.
  3. Completed DRDP Training.
  4. Some experience preferred, especially in center-based care, with a focus on working with infants and toddlers.
  5. Ability to work with disabled or challenging children and diverse populations.
  6. Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program.
  7. Pass a health screening test, immunized against Influenza, Pertussis, and Measles, and maintain a clear and active exemption-free status with Community Care Licensing.
Preferred Skills:
  • Establish positive relationships with young children and their families.
  • Understand and demonstrate how to interact with children in ways that support their content learning and developing skills.
  • Communicate and collaborate in partnership with families in a culturally appropriate and responsive manner to support young children's development and learning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to promote children's positive social behavior and self-regulation.
  • Integrate movement and kinesthetic experiences within the curriculum to help young children's development and learning.
