Job Summary

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing general radiographic technology (R), Computed Technology (CT), procedures for the patients of the VA NWI-Health Care System. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in digital radiology (DR) and picture archiving and communications systems (PACS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general radiographic procedures, including portable, fluoroscopy, and c-arm procedures.
  • Operate computed imaging equipment, including CT scanners, to produce high-quality images for diagnostic purposes.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Work with the interventional radiology team to perform procedures such as biopsies, cryoablations, and abscess drainages.
  • Provide training to student radiographers from affiliated programs and facilitate the attainment of established program objectives.
Requirements
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT).
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Work Environment

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist will work in a fast-paced imaging department, interacting with patients, staff, and physicians. The incumbent must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
