Job Overview
  • Schedule: 10-hour shifts, 40 hours per week

An MRI Technologist operates magnetic resonance imaging machines to create detailed images of the inside of a patient's body. They are responsible for positioning patients correctly, ensuring safety protocols are followed, maintaining equipment, and providing high-quality images while delivering compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Pre-Procedure Preparation:
    • Review patient medical history, doctor's orders, and previous imaging studies to ensure proper MRI procedure.
    • Explain MRI procedure to patients, addressing questions or concerns to reduce anxiety.
    • Ensure necessary documentation is completed before procedures.
    • Verify patient identity and screening criteria for safety.
    • Prepare MRI room by ensuring machine and equipment are ready for procedures.
  2. Conducting MRI Scans:
    • Operate MRI machine, adjusting settings as prescribed by physicians.
    • Position patients on MRI table, ensuring comfort and alignment for clear images.
    • Administer contrast agents as prescribed, monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
    • Ensure patients remain still during scans to obtain clear images.
    • Monitor MRI process, making adjustments as needed.
  3. Patient Safety and Comfort:
    • Ensure patient safety during MRI procedures, verifying no ferrous or metal objects are present.
    • Keep patients informed during scans, providing reassurance and instructions as needed.
    • Monitor patients' conditions during scans, detecting potential issues or discomfort.
    • Ensure proper patient positioning to avoid injuries or discomfort.
  4. Post-Procedure Care:
    • Assist patients off MRI table after procedures, ensuring they are stable and comfortable.
    • Provide post-procedure instructions, including follow-up treatments and care for injection sites.
    • Ensure required post-scan imaging or additional scans are scheduled as necessary.
    • Address immediate concerns or side effects patients may experience.
  5. Maintenance and Equipment Care:
    • Ensure MRI machine is regularly calibrated and functioning correctly.
    • Clean and disinfect MRI suite and equipment between patients.
    • Monitor equipment performance, identifying malfunctions or issues, and alerting staff for repairs or servicing.
  6. Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Communicate effectively with physicians, radiologists, and other medical staff to ensure correct images are obtained and patients' needs are met.
    • Work with healthcare professionals to review images, assess need for follow-up scans, and discuss patient conditions.
    • Collaborate with radiologists to ensure final images meet diagnostic standards and are transmitted accurately to physicians for review.
  7. Documentation and Record-Keeping:
    • Document patient information and scan results in electronic health record (EHR), ensuring records are complete and accurate.
    • Ensure imaging data is properly labeled and uploaded into system.
    • Maintain logs of equipment usage, maintenance, and any issues encountered during procedures.
  8. Radiation Safety and Protocols:
    • Follow guidelines for handling contrast agents and equipment that could pose risk to patients.
    • Adhere to radiation safety standards for other imaging technologies used in department.
    • Follow established safety protocols, including magnetic field safety, to avoid accidents or injuries.
  9. Professional Development and Training:
    • Stay current with latest MRI technology, scanning techniques, and patient care practices.
    • Participate in continuing education programs and obtain necessary certifications to maintain licensure and improve professional skills.
    • Assist in training new MRI technologists or students on operation of MRI machines and best practices in patient care.
