Job Summary:
The Nursing Supervisor is a key member of the Presbyterian Homes team, responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in the Skilled Nursing Department. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to nursing service and employee relations.
- Make rounds to assess and evaluate patient needs, quality of patient care, and staff ability to handle clinical situations.
- Serve as a consultant, advisor, and resource person for nursing staff on assigned shift.
- Function as the contact and problem-solving person for residents, physicians, families, and visitors.
- Interpret and implement Presbyterian Homes and The Moorings nursing policies and procedures.
- Assist with staffing schedule for assigned shift and handle staffing emergencies for the following shift.
- Assign nursing personnel and make adjustments in assignments based on patient acuity and staff capabilities.
- Enter pertinent resident information, including admission, discharges, falls, and skin issues, on the 24-hour report.
- Document pertinent information on the 24-hour report concerning staffing issues.
- Assist in orienting and evaluating new nursing personnel.
- Assist with performance evaluations of staff assigned to shift.
- Counsel staff as needed and recommend disciplinary action to the Director of Nursing or initiate disciplinary action personally when warranted.
- Participate as a member of the nursing leadership group in identifying and solving problems and implementing department objectives.
- Participate as assigned to a QAPI project.
- Ongoing completion of projects assigned by DON.
- Communicate as needed with Director of Nursing and other nursing management personnel to ensure 24-hour continuity of care.
- Work in conjunction with the Director of Nursing in identifying and fulfilling educational needs of staff assigned to shift.
- Evaluate accidents/injuries/emergencies for any resident of the campus, staff member, or visitor during the assigned shift and provide appropriate follow-up as indicated.
- Responsible to learn and use standard functions within software and know basic operation of computer to enhance efficiency in resident/patient service, assessment, and/or clinical documentation.
- Responsible for using computers and software as required by work environment to enhance communications, performance, and knowledge.
- Complete all assigned computer education modules in a timely fashion.
- Assume responsibility for own professional development.
- Aware of Presbyterian Homes Corporate Compliance policies, including those having to do with confidentiality and security of information, and concern for the well-being of residents and patients. Demonstrate behaviors and complete work in a manner consistent with these policies.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved registered professional nursing program. BSN or equivalent preferred.
- Active, current Illinois license to practice professional nursing. Current CPR certificate.
- Three years experience as a staff nurse in the acute setting with adult patients or long-term care experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
