Field Safety Engineer - In-Depth Product Analysis

Job Overview

  • The product safety division is seeking a Field Safety Engineer to contribute to their efforts. This role will involve
  • conducting in-depth analyses of products in the field, with a particular emphasis on battery systems.
  • Key Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A technical engineering degree in a relevant discipline
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Extensive laboratory experience and proficiency in Failure Analysis & Forensics methodologies are essential
  • Familiarity with lithium battery technology is required
  • Experience in creating test plans, procedures, and workflows
  • Background in consumer electronics, electrical engineering, and/or battery failure analysis is highly valued
  • Excellent communication skills; adaptable personality suited for a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to thrive under pressure with a strong curiosity necessary for excelling in the failure analysis role
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Apple Keynote
  • Strong data visualization skills, with the ability to convey insights and conclusions effectively (both written and verbal)
  • Familiarity with Tableau tools is advantageous
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as JMP is a plus
  • Knowledge of safety standards relevant to consumer electronics is beneficial
  • Experience in analyzing CT scan/X-ray images is a plus
  • Expertise in Weibull analysis and time-in-field forecasting is a significant advantage

Core Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with fellow field safety engineers to provide technical assistance for safety-related product returns
  • Ensure comprehensive analysis of field returns across diverse product lines and components
  • Adhere to Failure Analysis flow charts and procedures, ensuring meticulous analysis and reporting of safety returns
  • Conduct hands-on testing on safety return units as necessary
  • Perform battery cell disassemblies and document findings with corresponding images
  • Assist in the submission of samples for chemical analysis
  • Coordinate with the Failure Analysis team for the submission of X-ray and CT scan data
  • Responsible for completing safety return analyses with detailed findings and summaries
  • Effectively communicate analysis results and findings using Keynote and data visualization tools (Tableau)
