GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Skincare Specialist (SS) is tasked with engaging clients in the prestige sales sector and consulting with them on their skincare requirements to recommend suitable products and services. The SS delivers high-quality, professional skincare treatments with a focus on the client's overall appearance. They embody the image, products, and ethos of Ulta Beauty's skincare brands and support the Experience Manager (EM) through a commitment to performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (client service and associate culture), and process (operational procedures and compliance standards). This role necessitates a valid license in Esthetics or Cosmetology (as mandated by state law), exceptional client service skills, and the ability to learn and convey product knowledge effectively.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Job Functions)
The SS is a proponent of Ulta Beauty's mission, vision, and values, and should consistently demonstrate them by performing the following duties and responsibilities of the position (along with any other assigned projects/duties):
Performance
- Provide services in the Skin Room/Pod/Bar, including facials, waxing, ear piercing (where applicable), and makeup applications, as well as conduct express facials from a mobile station in the store.
- Achieve or surpass sales targets for skincare services and products, contributing to the store's overall goals related to retail and service sales, client loyalty (including credit), omni-channel, and retail shrink as established by Ulta Beauty.
- Ensure that each client receives outstanding service by creating a welcoming environment, which includes greeting and engaging every client, personalizing service to their needs, and recommending/demonstrating appropriate products, samples, and services.
- Conduct makeup applications, skincare assessments, and product demonstrations with clients to enhance sales and the client service experience.
- Schedule client appointments for initial services, follow-up services, and events that provide an unparalleled client experience.
- Proactively stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services during work hours, and be knowledgeable about the ingredients and benefits of these trends, products, and services to better assist clients.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
People
- Contribute to an inclusive atmosphere that supports teammates, peers, and the internal and external clients served.
- Develop client relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
- Build and maintain an active clientele portfolio for the Skin Room/Pod/Bar.
- Serve all clients, including walk-in clients, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners that foster a shared interest in collaboratively achieving sales and service goals for the Skin Room/Pod/Bar as set by Ulta Beauty.
- Share the advantages of the client loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, with clients on the sales floor.
- Regularly engage in ongoing training, including brand and category education, to enable continuous professional development and drive Skin Room/Pod/Bar sales performance.
Process
- Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty's policies, procedures, and standards.
- Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols before, during, and after services; always ensure compliance with state board guidelines.
- Follow Ulta Beauty and Skin Room/Pod/Bar dress code, including wearing brand assets as directed.
- Implement established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional client experience.
- Adhere to tester standards for the Skin Room/Pod/Bar and Prestige department.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager promptly to ensure client readiness at all times.
- Maintain outstanding operational standards, including cleanliness of the Skin Room/Pod/Bar, sales floor, restrooms, cash wrap, backroom, break area, and any additional assigned area.
- Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices and providing exceptional client service.
- Execute other operational tasks as directed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma is preferred.
- Cosmetology or esthetics license where required by state law.
Experience
- Previous relevant work experience is preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency with the latest salon techniques for performing facials, skin assessments, and skincare equipment.
- Proficiency with the latest techniques for performing facial waxing.
- Proficiency with the latest techniques for performing makeup applications.
- Proficiency with the use of equipment needed to perform technical work.
- Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell skincare and makeup products.
- Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and clientele.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Attend brand-sponsored training and corporate meetings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Continuous mobility during shifts.
- Frequent and/or continuous bending, pulling, pushing, reaching, and twisting during shifts.
- Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shifts.
- Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shifts.
