Position Overview: The Float Medical Assistant reports directly to the Practice Manager and operates under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor and/or Office Supervisor. This role involves a variety of clerical and patient care responsibilities, executed under general supervision and in accordance with established protocols.

  • Clerical Duties: Perform routine administrative tasks, including:
    • Welcoming and assisting patients and visitors in a courteous manner.
    • Handling incoming calls and accurately relaying messages.
    • Collecting necessary information from patients to ensure accurate record-keeping.
    • Maintaining organized patient files and documentation.
  • Patient Care Responsibilities: Assist healthcare providers with various tasks, such as:
    • Documenting patient medical histories.
    • Preparing patients for examinations.
    • Supporting physicians and nurses during minor procedures.
    • Conducting routine lab tests and collecting specimens.
    • Administering medications and injections as directed.
    • Providing patients with clear instructions based on physician's guidance.
    • Ensuring exam rooms are stocked and organized.
    • Cleaning and sterilizing medical instruments.
    • Coordinating patient admissions and necessary hospital information.
    • Managing medication refills and patient compliance.
    • Updating electronic medical records with relevant patient information.
    • Maintaining the physician's calendar and scheduling appointments.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing learning and departmental activities by:

    • Completing additional tasks as assigned to support the department.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, with a minimum age of 17.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in a medical office setting is advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish is preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in performing patient care procedures and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and billing practices.
  • Ability to analyze patient information and resolve issues.

Working Environment: This position is based in a medical office setting and may require flexibility in hours and duties.

Physical Requirements: Candidates must possess the physical stamina to perform essential functions, including lifting and positioning patients as needed.
