POSITION OVERVIEW: This role involves the comprehensive management of nursing services, patient education, and discharge strategies. The incumbent will utilize established nursing standards to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate all aspects of nursing care for designated patients from admission to discharge. The position operates under the general oversight of senior nursing professionals and includes supervisory responsibilities for junior nursing staff. Additional related duties may be assigned as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct thorough physical, psychological, and social evaluations of patients;
- Formulate a detailed nursing care plan based on patient assessments and diagnoses;
- Collaborate directly with physicians, assisting during examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments;
- Execute medical and nursing directives;
- Prioritize care based on patient needs;
- Relay critical patient information to physicians and other healthcare team members;
- Assess the effectiveness of care provided;
- Revise care plans as needed;
- Monitor vital signs and document care activities;
- Create and implement discharge plans for patients;
- Educate patients and their families on health-related topics;
- Administer medications, including intravenous therapies, and report any adverse reactions;
- Engage in and support research initiatives;
- Participate in nursing committees;
- Carry out tasks typically assigned to lower-ranking nursing staff as directed.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive understanding of professional nursing principles, techniques, and processes; familiarity with the organizational structure, policies, and procedures of healthcare facilities as they pertain to nursing; knowledge of pharmacology and medication administration; proficiency in using medical equipment and instruments; adeptness with electronic medical record systems; strong interpersonal skills; sound judgment; patience; resourcefulness; initiative; and reliability; capable of fulfilling the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program and one of the following:
- A valid license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State as issued by the New York State Education Department at the time of appointment and maintained throughout the duration of employment; or
- Eligibility for a Limited Permit to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State as issued by the New York State Education Department at the time of appointment, with the requirement to obtain a full license within one year and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from an approved ECMCC provider at the time of appointment and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.
NOTE: Graduates from nursing programs registered by the New York State Education Department may practice nursing under the supervision of a currently registered professional nurse in this state for up to ninety (90) days following graduation and pending receipt of a limited permit for which an application has been filed.
