Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive legal consultations and intakes to determine eligibility for immigration relief and provide legal guidance.
  • Manage a caseload, offering direct representation to individuals seeking immigration relief.
  • Conduct client interviews and prepare motions, statements, applications, and appeals.
  • Represent clients before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Executive Office for Immigration Review under attorney supervision.
  • Draft correspondence to relevant agencies and courts.
  • Assist clients in gathering necessary documentary evidence.
  • Perform legal research on statutes, case law, and country conditions.
  • Prepare clients for USCIS interviews and immigration court hearings.
  • Stay updated on immigration law and policy through self-study and participation in training sessions.
  • Provide coverage for attorneys during initial hearings as needed.
  • Oversee case management and guide legal assistants and interns.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Confirmed need for a fully accredited representative within the unit.
  • Recommendation from a current or previous supervisor.
  • Minimum of one year of employment at RAICES as a Legal Assistant.
  • Must obtain full accreditation and meet formal requirements from the Office of Legal Access Programs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in drafting legal documents such as applications and briefs.
  • Knowledge of immigration law and experience in conducting client intakes.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
