Job Summary:
As a Central Sterile Tech Sterile Process, you will be responsible for processing and issuing routine and specialized medical/surgical supplies and instruments used in patient care. You will clean, high-level disinfect/sterilize, and package medical and surgical instrument trays and inventories.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble baskets of instruments, basin sets, and equipment using checklists and prepare for sterilization.
  • Assemble sets of supplies and instruments for various clinical settings, checking for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Decontaminate, disinfect, and thoroughly clean supplies, instruments, and equipment used in procedures.
  • Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to the right locations.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate supply levels, instruments, and equipment.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions, make minor repairs, and notify staff of the need for more significant repairs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reprocessing and maintaining endoscopes and other endoscopic equipment according to high-level disinfection policy and manufacturer instructions.
  • Effectively communicate information about scope repairs, loaners, supplies, and quality improvement data by maintaining documentation of all actions.
  • Interact with equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of instrument and equipment IFUs and processes instruments.
  • Maintain supplies needed for cleaning and reprocessing and communicate equipment failures and needed repairs effectively.
  • Accurately record data in appropriate logs.

Requirements:

  • No education requirements as long as other position qualifications are met.
  • No licensure or certification required.
  • No experience required, but nine months' experience as a sterile tech is required for positions at UNC Medical Center or Rex Hospital.
  • Graduation from a sterile processing school may waive experience requirements.
