Position Overview
Under direct supervision, this role involves assisting professional and technical staff by executing a variety of support functions and services.
Key Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are typical for positions within this classification, regardless of departmental assignments:
- Serve as a liaison between community residents and professional staff, ensuring that current community issues are communicated effectively;
- Acquire knowledge of departmental programs and community resources to inform residents about available services;
- Schedule appointments and maintain simple records;
- Collect data and compile concise reports;
- Facilitate transportation for residents receiving departmental services;
- Act as an interpreter for non-English speaking residents when necessary;
- Participate in relevant staff and in-service meetings;
- Engage in on-the-job training sessions;
- Provide assistance and support services to community residents and professional staff in various settings;
- May offer counseling to clients regarding personal issues and explain available community resources;
- Collaborate with professional staff to assess client needs or challenges;
- Identify clients in the community who require departmental services;
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Possession of a valid California Driver's license prior to appointment, and the ability to qualify for a County Drivers Permit.
Experience Requirements: The necessary knowledge and skills are typically gained through six (6) months of experience in community service with community-based or non-profit organizations, providing familiarity with available community resources and basic record-keeping.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of the problems, needs, attitudes, and behaviors of community residents;
- Awareness of available community resources;
- Basic record-keeping skills.
- Comprehend and follow both written and oral instructions;
- Maintain simple records accurately;
- Read and write in English;
- Communicate effectively and build positive relationships with community members;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
