Job Summary:
This position plays a key role in the Department's Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program. The AOD Counselor will deliver group therapy akin to an outpatient program over a six-month period, utilizing the WestCare Foundation's treatment approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, score, and interpret screening and assessment tools, including the TCU Drug Screen, Treatment Assignment Protocol, and URICA.
- Conduct screenings and assessments during the intake process and back-end screenings for standing populations.
- Deliver treatment services to participants, including group and individual meetings.
- Evaluate participant progress and work with them to develop and implement a treatment service plan.
- Initiate and sustain participant motivation to participate in treatment, using techniques of engagement, including therapeutic relationships, individual counseling, and brief interventions.
- Maintain individual client treatment files in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Participate in staffing regarding participants with other team members.
Requirements:
- Experience in providing direct substance abuse counseling services to the criminal justice population, preferred.
- Must possess at a minimum an associate degree in Human Services or Substance Abuse.
- Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) status or Certified Supervisor Counselor Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD) certification, required.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in a correctional institution setting. Must be able to de-escalate situations in the program.
