Genomics Technician

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Genomics Technician to join our Cytogenetics Laboratory team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting microscopic examinations of cellular samples, interpreting gynecologic cellular samples, and providing preliminary cytologic interpretations for non-gynecologic and abnormal gynecologic specimens.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts microscopic examinations of cellular samples and interprets gynecologic cellular samples within normal limits.
• Provides preliminary cytologic interpretations for non-gynecologic and abnormal gynecologic specimens.
• Assists with specimens adequacy assessment during procedures and responsible for quality control and instrument maintenance.
• Performs pre-analytic molecular diagnostics or cytogenetics procedures, including receiving, accessioning, and preparing specimens for clinical testing.
• Isolates DNA on a wide variety of specimen types and/or performs tissue culture procedures.

Requirements:

• Must satisfy CLIA88 qualification requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testing.
• Associates degree in medical technology required.
• No previous clinical lab experience required.
• Ability to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levels.
