Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant is a vital member of our primary care team, working closely with the primary care physician to deliver exceptional patient care to our community. This role ensures that services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines.

The Medical Assistant will be responsible for reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
  • Prepares and reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up-to-date
  • Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed
  • Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required within 9 months of start date; in South Carolina required within 12 months of start date): Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required)
