This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a proactive in-house legal team that manages a variety of employment litigation and arbitration cases directly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Litigation Management: You will take charge of your own litigation and arbitration cases, overseeing all phases from investigation to resolution. This includes interviewing witnesses, conducting depositions, managing motions, and leading arbitration or trial proceedings. This role is ideal for an experienced employment litigator looking to transition from a law firm environment.
  • Agency Interaction: Handle agency complaints, government audits, and demand correspondence.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide comprehensive advice on a wide range of employment-related issues, such as wage and hour laws, payroll matters, employee benefits, recruitment processes, performance evaluations, internal investigations, leave policies, disciplinary actions, terminations, employee classification, and privacy concerns.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Payroll, Operations, Risk Management, and Training departments on compliance matters related to employment law. This includes designing and implementing wage and hour compliance audits and advising on corrective actions and training initiatives.
  • Legislative Monitoring: Stay informed about federal, state, and local employment legislation, regulations, and case law that impact the organization, providing updates and recommendations as necessary.
  • Travel Requirements: Some travel may be necessary, subject to health advisories and restrictions.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in employment law, with a focus on California wage and hour litigation.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution; must hold a valid California Bar admission.
  • Extensive experience managing all aspects of employment litigation, with a strong understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience with both class actions and individual plaintiff cases.
  • A self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, capable of working independently while exercising sound judgment.
  • A collaborative team player who can effectively manage legal staff and partner with various business units.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Practical business judgment and common sense.
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humor that aligns with the company's culture.
