The Human Resources Office (HRO) within the Department of Ecology is seeking to fill two Technical Human Resource Consultant (HR Consultant 2) (In-Training) roles. These positions are part of a dynamic team dedicated to supporting the agency's mission.

As a Technical Human Resource Consultant, you will leverage your exceptional communication and customer service abilities. Your strong organizational skills and sense of accountability will be essential in these roles. Working within a collaborative technical unit, you will have the opportunity to partner with colleagues to meet departmental objectives. Additionally, you will demonstrate a commitment to ongoing improvement by identifying areas for enhancement and actively participating in initiatives.

Note: These positions provide a career pathway and on-the-job training, allowing you to advance within the Human Resource Consultant field towards the goal classification of Human Resource Consultant 2. Candidates may be considered for the Human Resource Consultant 1 classification (In-Training) or the Human Resource Consultant 2 (Goal classification) levels based on their qualifications.

Telework Options: This role requires in-office work at least one day per week, with potential for increased in-office presence during training and to meet operational needs. Duties

What makes this role unique?

The Technical Human Resource Consultant positions are integral to the HR Technical Unit. You will independently execute professional human resource functions for designated programs and provide support to senior HR staff as directed by the lead worker and supervisor. This team is cohesive and dedicated, finding ways to enjoy their work while achieving results.

Responsibilities:

As a Technical Consultant, you will interpret federal and state regulations, civil service rules, collective bargaining agreements, and agency policies to:

  • Complete full-cycle personnel actions, including processing appointment letters and creating personnel action forms in collaboration with Payroll and Environmental/Administrative Programs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for various HR inquiries, delivering high-quality customer service to Ecology staff, leaders, and the public.
  • Maintain confidential records in accordance with retention guidelines and assist with public disclosure requests.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Full-time equivalent experience is required, with combinations of professional employment, education, and volunteer experience considered. Applicants must meet the requirements for one of the levels listed below:

At the Human Resource Consultant 1 Level:

A total of 4 years of experience and/or education in broad-based professional human resources, including advising on HR issues.

At the Human Resource Consultant 2 Level:

A total of 5 years of experience and/or education in broad-based professional human resources.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience with Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) and interpreting collective bargaining agreements will enhance your application.
