Job Summary:

As an Emergency Department Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting. Under the direct supervision of a physician and/or designee, you will assist in examination and treatment of patients, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform within the scope and training of the EDT, adhering to State/Federal regulations, including EMTALA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Provide competent patient care for all ages, acuities, and conditions, ensuring age-specific care and responding to cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, following lines of authority as appropriate.
  • Proficient in English for effective oral and written communication with co-workers and other healthcare team members.
  • Complete duties with regard to safety practices and policies, including infection control, workplace safety, and management of aggressive behaviors.
  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education requirements per department and facility standards.
  • Establish priorities based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Document patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
  • Participate in ED staff meetings, in-services, and performance improvement activities.
  • Establish effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team, patients, and families.
Requirements:
  • 6 months of related experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant with certification as specified by the Medical Board of California, or equivalent.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support.
