Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiology Tech Lab Technician to join our team at SSM Health. As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for taking x-rays of designated parts of the human body for diagnostic purposes and providing support for the imaging department.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Explains procedures to patients to ensure understanding and provides appropriate educational material.
  • Transports patients to and from clinical areas and verifies patient identity according to policies and procedures.
  • Assists technologists with preparing patients for radiology exams by positioning them for the procedure.
  • Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines to prevent patient exposure to unnecessary radiation.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Observes patients during procedures and reports abnormal activity.
  • Ensures prompt submission of high-quality images and documents sent to PACS.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning and reports potential problems or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, laboratory work areas, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage areas, and other areas in the department.
  • May perform limited CT procedures in emergent situations when a CT Technologist is not on site.
  • Collects, labels, processes, and preserves blood, urine, and other specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Enters, accesses, and executes lab orders in the appropriate laboratory and electronic medical record system.
  • May perform phlebotomy and/or waived testing.
  • Performs administrative and clerical duties, including admission activities, insurance verification, order entry processing, and medical record processing.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Education and Experience
  • Completion of a radiology certification program.
  • No experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near and far.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Rare kneeling and sitting.
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Radiographer, Licensed - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
