Job Title: Senior Healthcare Interpreter

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Healthcare Interpreter to join our team at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. As a Senior Healthcare Interpreter, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care by providing accurate and effective interpretation services in a healthcare setting.

Job Summary:

The Senior Healthcare Interpreter will serve as a lead interpreter and address complex and specialized language access needs within sub-specialty services. This includes providing direct interpretation and written translation language access services to patients, physicians, nurses, and other health professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare interpretation and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide interpretation services in a healthcare setting, including in-person and remote interpretation
  • Translate and type complex and sensitive materials, including consent forms, flyers, patient education materials, and medical questionnaires
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing data on language access needs and services
  • Provide consultative language access services to allied health professionals or administrative staff
  • Advise on the technical equipment needed for language access services
Requirements:
  • Two years of experience at the level of a Healthcare Interpreter providing interpretation services in a healthcare setting in one or more foreign languages
  • Successful completion of a Healthcare Interpreter Training Program, which includes a section covering Medical Terminology
  • Certification or credential issued by a recognized Healthcare Interpreter credentialing organization
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Additional experience in excess of the Selection Requirements for the qualifying option
  • Experience providing interpretation services in an acute care setting
Working Conditions:

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. The position requires a valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions.
