About the Position:
We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Professional to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a key member of our mental health department, you will provide direct mental healthcare and case management services to veterans.
Job Summary:
This position provides direct mental healthcare and case management services to the seriously mentally ill (SMI), dually diagnosed, chemically dependent, and to those with other mental health issues in the Veteran population seen at Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VAMC Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MH RRTP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Interview Veterans; complete psychosocial assessments; develop comprehensive treatment plans; establish and maintain therapeutic alliances; provide psychotherapy; analyze complex psychological problems; identify specific Veteran needs; coordinate with external consultants and ancillary mental health professionals to ensure appropriate and necessary treatment is provided/offered to Veterans;
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical records in accordance with Behavioral Health guidelines, professional practice, and VA administration guidelines;
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with various Veteran agencies and develop personalized services for Veterans;
- Exercise mature, professional judgment and flexible use of a wide range of clinical skills, actively participating in program planning in the identification of program needs;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the range of treatment and skills needed for Veterans, including geriatric residents related to their physical limitations, psychological needs and age associated illnesses and conditions;
- Have a working knowledge of the impact of chemical dependency on all stages of a Veteran's life;
- Interview Veterans and assist to develop a psychosocial assessment of the Veteran in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Veteran, family members, and significant others;
- Create a psychosocial history, psychosocial assessment, and diagnosis for each assigned Veteran;
- Formulate a mutually agreed upon treatment plan, which includes measurable goals, objectives, and interventions based upon the Veteran's choice and participation;
- Collaborate with other service providers in reassessing the Veteran's needs;
- Assist the Veteran to initiate creative solutions to reoccurring problems, such as a loss of resources;
- Utilize current resources of VA and community social service programs to enhance the content to the benefit of Veterans;
- Make rapid assessments for admission to mental health residential programs. In the event of a medical or psychiatric emergency, follow the protocol of the MH RRTP;
- Provide education related to VA and community resources, entitlements, Advance Directives/Living Will, and refer Veterans/families to the appropriate interdisciplinary team member for identified health education needs;
- Provide Veterans and their family, significant other, and/or caregivers with ongoing supportive counseling, therapy, and group therapy;
- Enter all Veteran/family contacts in the electronic record using appropriate formats, templates, and timeframes;
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, volunteers, consumers and stakeholders within the VA and outside community agencies;

Requirements:
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States;
- Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE);
- Licensure/Certification: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level;
- English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English;
