Job Title: Sr Mechanical Engineer

Ranpak is a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, and we're seeking a highly skilled Sr Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

About the Role

We're looking for a talented mechanical engineer with a strong background in design and development of paper converting machinery, automation products, and related equipment. As a Sr Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership during new product introduction (NPI), product commercialization, and production start-up of new products. This includes offshore-sourced equipment. You will also support sales at customer locations during installation of new equipment and field issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and test new generation automation products
  • Perform root-cause analysis and propose improvements for short- and long-term impact
  • Bring innovative ideas and technologies to projects and implement them
  • Participate in design projects, customized products, and optimize existing products
  • Develop structured development plans, documentation, drawings, and calculations
  • Support commercialization of new products
  • Maintain regular contacts with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Responsible for technical execution and proactively address technical topics
  • Administer, share, and report activities related to assigned projects
  • Mechanical design of simple to complex equipment, including prototypes, evaluation, testing, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Excellent networking skills and building bridges with global teams
  • Improve processes to gain efficiency, quality, and effectiveness
  • Drive standardization of technologies
  • Ability to generate and select between concepts
  • Support NPI program manager from a technical aspect
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Mentor senior and junior engineers, delegate technical tasks, and challenge and grow indirect reports
  • Create and support technical/design requirements documents and capture customer requirements
  • Support creation of technical manuals, engineering BOM, spare parts list, etc.
  • Use 2D and 3D software to generate complete machine assembly drawings and detailed components
  • Develop test plans, operation manuals, and other pertinent documentation
  • Perform engineering design calculations and participate in product design decisions
  • Select and install automation components
  • Understand automation equipment performance metrics
  • Provide technical leadership to drafters to develop detailed drawings from layouts
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience in an R&D or engineering position
  • Technical lead for highly complicated Sales/NPI projects and Level 3/4 CP's
  • SolidWorks CAD experience required
  • At least 6 years of design and automation experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Prefer SAP system experience
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to indirect reports
  • Ability to divide project work scope among team members and ensure completion by deadlines
  • Ability to mitigate project hurdles and communicate to senior stakeholders
  • Broad interest in equipment assembly and process technology
  • Driven personality who persists even when it becomes difficult and can work independently
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Good team member and comfortable working with global teams
  • Good interpersonal skills-maturity, poise, and engineering approach
