Hotel Houseman Job Description

Job Title: Hotel Houseman

Reports to: Executive Housekeeper, Housekeeping Supervisor, or General Manager

Job Summary: Cleans assigned areas in accordance with set procedures, stocks room attendant's supplies, removes soiled linen and trash from carts, and performs various guest service functions.

Essential Functions:

  1. Cleans vending machines and their surrounding areas.
  2. Empties all trash receptacles and ashtrays in corridors and public areas.
  3. Cleans all outside area walkways, sweeps stairways and landings, cleans railings, and washes all exit doors.
  4. Cleans public restrooms.
  5. Cleans elevators, tracks, chrome, and stainless steel.
  6. Spot-cleans walls and doors, removes cobwebs, and cleans fire extinguishers.
  7. Wipes baseboards, railings, phones, walls, windows/doors, and vending areas.
  8. Collects soiled linen from room attendant's cars and delivers to the assigned area.
  9. Vacuums all inside corridors and shampoos carpets as needed.
  10. Assists in keeping all storage areas and linen room clean.
  11. Assists the Executive Housekeeper in checking supplies, opening cartons, and placing supplies neatly on shelves.
  12. Assists in making beds and cleaning rooms, flipping mattresses on a periodic basis, as instructed by the Manager.
  13. Delivers cribs, rollaways, and other guest amenities to guest rooms.
  14. Cleans and sets up the pool area each morning and afternoon.
  15. Assists with light maintenance duties such as PTAC replacement, toilet plunging, and showerhead replacement.
  16. Completes all assigned tasks on the checklist and completes a walkthrough with the Manager to ensure all tasks were completed on the said employee's checklist before the employee clocks out.
  17. Recognizes and corrects potential safety hazards such as broken doors or railings, fire hazards, wet floors, etc.

Job Specifications:

Environmental Conditions: 75% Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. 25% Outside: No protection from weather conditions during property walks and inspections.

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of applicable franchise standards and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain records and communicate effectively with members of other hotel departments.

Education/Vocational Preparation: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Ability to follow a schedule and perform physical labor.
