Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Security Program Assistant at St. Matthew's House Inc. This role is responsible for providing security and programming support to our Ft. Myers Shelter program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement security policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents and staff.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including second and third shifts, as well as weekends, to provide 24/7 coverage.
  • Enter accurate and objective documentation into the resident management system to track incidents and breaches of security.
  • Coordinate with staff to respond to emergencies and alarms, and report on incidents and breaches of security.
  • Investigate and resolve security issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform regular security checks of the facility and surrounding areas to ensure that the facility is secure.
  • Have knowledge of all guidelines located in the security operations manual and shelter handbook, and hold residents accountable to these guidelines.
  • Check daily to ensure residents' living areas are properly maintained and in compliance with Shelter guidelines.
  • Perform random bed checks to ensure that all residents are accounted for when providing overnight shift coverage.
  • Administer random drug screens on residents as required.
  • Sort hygiene supplies and donations into the appropriate storage containers.
  • Complete discharge of residents, as needed, with accurate information.
  • Remove and store discharged residents' personal items per program guidelines.
  • Provide transportation for residents to appropriate appointments and events in the company vehicle.
  • Have knowledge of the phone system and how to transfer calls.
  • Properly screen individuals who are attempting to enter the shelter after hours.
  • Assist and support the intake department with various tasks as needed.
  • Treat all residents and guests with respect and exercise appropriate boundaries with residents.
  • Pray with residents and staff as opportunities are available.
  • Complete all job duties with St. Matthew's House core values as the guiding principle.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Proven experience in security procedures or similar position. A minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals who are homeless or suffering from addiction.
  • Confidentiality: Works with highly confidential information.
  • Mental/Visual Demands: Flow of work requires normal mental and visual capabilities.
  • Physical Demand: Must be able to stand for a minimum of 4 hours at a time and lift at least 50 pounds. Must be able to bend or kneel to the ground.
  • Working Conditions: Combination of office and outdoor environment.
