Overview
As a Custodian, you play a vital role in ensuring that our facilities are safe, clean, and compliant with all relevant regulations. Your responsibilities include performing cleaning, maintenance, and repairs in areas where professional licensure is not required. This position is essential in supporting the overall mission of Save the Children and reports directly to the Center Director or Manager of Facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules for classrooms, kitchens, offices, restrooms, storage areas, hallways, and entrances.
- Identify and report safety, sanitation, and fire hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the facility and grounds to maintain a secure environment.
- Ensure the health and safety of children, families, and staff by maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Restock supplies in restrooms and classrooms, sanitize areas as needed, and manage waste disposal.
- Keep an inventory of custodial supplies and assist in maintaining records as directed.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and maintaining equipment.
- Participate in planning for facility upgrades and minor repairs.
- Adhere to safety and building code requirements relevant to Head Start/Early Head Start facilities.
- Engage in basic repairs and maintenance tasks as assigned, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff in accordance with organizational policies.
- Implement active supervision techniques to ensure the safety of children at all times.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A minimum of a High School diploma or G.E.D.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance operations and tools.
- Ability to operate light vehicles and standard cleaning equipment.
- Strong ability to follow instructions and take initiative.
- A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds. Candidates should be prepared for various physical activities, including standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions.
