POSITION SUMMARY AND REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, is in search of a Clinical Research Specialist. This role involves providing educational resources to long-term care personnel on various geriatric subjects pertinent to long-term care environments. Topics may include dementia and associated behaviors, wound management, diabetes care, and fall prevention strategies. The position requires travel to long-term care facilities in the South Central region for 2-3 days each week to deliver training sessions. The educator will collaborate with the grant team and Geriatric Medicine faculty to enhance and develop educational materials. Additionally, the specialist will:
  • Travel to long-term care facilities in the South-Central RISE region (including various counties).
  • Organize training sessions for new facilities.
  • Revise existing educational content and develop new materials in partnership with the grant team and Geriatric Medicine faculty.
  • Oversee the completion of staff surveys as part of the training process.
  • Participate in weekly meetings.
The ideal candidate will possess foundational knowledge in elder care, including skills in working with individuals experiencing dementia, strategies to mitigate fall risks in older adults, and basic techniques for preventing pressure injuries. A general understanding of care practices in long-term care settings is also essential.

This specialist will receive training referrals but will primarily manage their schedule in collaboration with two nursing colleagues and grant team partners, allowing for a largely self-directed approach to scheduling and training.
