As a Districtwide Special Education Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of students with special needs. This position requires a strong commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist certified teachers in implementing instructional practices and strategies to promote student learning and independence.
- Implement strategies to maintain a safe and supportive instructional environment, including crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
- Assist with health-related procedures, such as tube feeding, catheterization, and administering medication, as needed.
- Keep student data current and report concerns to teachers and other professionals.
- Implement learning strategies, prompting procedures, and other systematic instructional procedures in school and non-school settings.
- Assist with community-based instruction and provide support to students in non-academic learning environments.
- Perform routine clerical duties, such as preparing instructional materials and maintaining classroom records.
- Assist teachers in monitoring student progress and maintaining student records.
- Implement behavior plans and techniques to promote positive student behavior.
- Minimum college credit hours or successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment or completion of an Associates Degree and experience working with youth in an organized setting.
- Knowledge of basic subjects taught in District Schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading.
- Ability to learn procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned duties and communicate effectively with others.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations. The work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking, and requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The ability to lift one-third of body weight, not to exceed 50 pounds, is also required.
