Position Summary:

The Property Accountant plays a crucial role in managing all financial operations associated with designated hotels. This position serves as the primary financial liaison for hotel General Managers. Key responsibilities encompass comprehensive financial accounting, budgeting, forecasting, daily and monthly financial close processes, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and the generation of monthly profit and loss statements along with owner reports. The Property Accountant collaborates closely with property-level management and accounting professionals to ensure effective execution of necessary accounting practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adherence to Main Street Hospitality standards and regulations, promoting safe and efficient financial operations across the hotel portfolio.
  • Record daily sales transactions after verifying audit reports against settlements, utilizing property management systems and accounting software.
  • Compile and enter monthly journal entries for banking and subsidiary accounts.
  • Generate monthly profit and loss statements for assigned properties.
  • Collaborate with General Managers on annual budgeting and mid-year financial forecasts.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations with appropriate documentation in compliance with auditing standards.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow statements and coordinate with the Treasury department on cash forecasts.
  • Audit and reconcile front desk and food and beverage cash handling.
  • Reconcile credit card transactions and city ledger accounts weekly, ensuring accuracy against property aging reports.
  • Verify tax calculations in sales journals and ensure proper alignment with revenue categories; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Notify management of any unusual financial activities or significant policy deviations.
  • Enhance productivity by identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Participate in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Maintain organized office practices through diligent filing and routing of job-related documents.
  • Complete any other responsibilities assigned by the VP of Finance.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in a hotel or related field is preferred.
  • College degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Three to five years of general accounting experience, including knowledge of chart of accounts, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and monthly closing processes.
  • Proficient in using basic computer applications, including spreadsheets and accounting software.
  • Experience with hospitality accounting and business analytics software is preferred.
