Position Objective:
The Senior Additive Manufacturing Technologist plays a crucial role in supporting both prototype and production activities for the KARNO generator, which is produced through metal additive manufacturing techniques. This individual will leverage their expertise in machinery and additive processes to maintain and enhance our machine fleet while contributing to engineering development initiatives for additively manufactured components. This pivotal position seeks to advance the frontiers of additive manufacturing, ultimately enhancing throughput and reducing component costs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and execute preventative maintenance, including laser system calibration, on the existing additive machine fleet.
- Diagnose and resolve unexpected downtime incidents on additive machines.
- Identify enhancements and streamline post-processing procedures related to additively manufactured components.
- Develop expertise as new production machines are integrated into the fleet.
- Assist in evaluating machine features and/or model alternatives to support improvements in Hyliion hardware, processes, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on parameter development to boost print speed, part quality, and performance while introducing new materials.
- Contribute to the training and development of fellow machine technicians to enhance the overall support capabilities of our team as print shop operations expand.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with GE Additive/Concept Laser machinery.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on precision to optimize performance.
- Electrical and mechanical intuition for troubleshooting machine-level issues.
- Familiarity with optical systems and control mechanisms.
- A collaborative mindset with a readiness to learn and adapt.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems-level challenges.
- Self-motivated with effective problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel as needed for visits to engineering providers and hardware suppliers.
- Occasional lifting of weights up to approximately 30 pounds may be necessary.
Educational Background:
- B.Sc. in Engineering or an Associate's degree with 2 years of technical experience, or a High School Diploma with 5 years of field service or electrical/mechanical technician experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working with LPBF (laser powder bed fusion) machines.
