Job Summary

This position is responsible for supervising and training maintenance workers in the performance of various maintenance activities on the rail systems and facilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the staff is productive by maintaining records of past jobs and using them for comparison.

This position directly supervises five subordinates and indirectly twenty additional subordinates from various workgroups within the Rail Maintenance and Rail Car Maintenance departments on the third shift.

The position serves as the focal point for all maintenance and operations activities on the third shift, working with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Electrical Power.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work efforts of subordinates, ensuring that work is performed correctly and providing guidance to maintenance employees when necessary.
  • Ensure that qualified staff is available and properly assigned to complete all scheduled and unscheduled work.
  • Schedule third shift work assignments in Rail Maintenance for assigned management staff to ensure that system maintenance functions are performed.
  • Administer heavy maintenance overhauls, including replacing trackwork and switches, and major repairs to tunnel and station structures.
  • Coordinate unscheduled maintenance to ensure that systems are returned to service in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Dispatch movements of non-revenue hi-rail maintenance vehicles, determining hi-rail movements and providing instructions to subordinate personnel.
  • Represent the entire rail maintenance operation on the third shift.
  • Perform various administrative duties, including entering data on the computer and tracking maintenance information.
  • Initiate orders for parts and work with vendors to maintain an adequate inventory of parts and equipment.
  • Train rail maintenance personnel on hi-rail operations, rail maintenance systems, and equipment operations.
Requirements

An Associate's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Technology plus five years of relevant work experience in the transit industry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Strong organization and communication skills, with the ability to read technical documents and operate a computer to record, analyze, and retrieve information.

Able to respond to and train employees and representatives from outside agencies for emergency preparedness.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
