Position Summary:
- In the role of Lead Electrical Systems Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in electronics and RF systems to enhance our innovative projects.
- Your responsibilities will include the analysis, design, implementation, and optimization of subsystems for our advanced nanosatellite bus and its communication payload.
- Collaborating with fellow Electrical Engineers, you will engage in the design and assembly of circuit boards, participating actively in the iterative design, integration, and testing phases of our nanosatellite systems.
- Proficiency with simulation and design tools, as well as test equipment for validating prototypes, will be essential in our laboratory settings.
- Given that our payloads operate across frequencies from UHF to Ka Band, your work will involve utilizing spectrum analyzers and other RF testing equipment.
- You will also play a crucial role in the selection of components and vendors as part of the design team.

Key Responsibilities:
- The Lead Electrical Systems Engineer will engage in engineering tasks across electrical, RF, and software domains, focusing primarily on schematic and layout design.
- Design spacecraft bus and payload hardware, including components such as single-board computers, FPGAs, SoCs, processors, sensors, SDRs, LNAs, filters, and amplifiers.
- Create circuit board schematics, select appropriate components, utilize development boards or breadboards to validate designs, develop layouts, assemble, test, and debug circuit boards as necessary.
- Develop firmware and software testing protocols for your circuit designs.
- Establish production-level testing standards for the designed circuit boards.
- Generate and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for spacecraft bus and payload design and development.
- Participate in design reviews at all levels of the project.
- Conduct and document failure analyses on problematic areas and testing outcomes.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure proper integration of designed components into the spacecraft bus and payload, considering thermal requirements.
- Support the integration, testing, and delivery of spacecraft payloads to launch partners and vendors.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
- Over 8 years of experience in circuit board design and development, including discrete logic, signal conditioning, power circuits, and RF PCBs.
- Proficient in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium software.
- Experience with circuit simulation tools such as LTSpice or similar.
- Knowledge of RF circuit design, including separate ground, power, and 50-ohm signal planes, along with necessary shielding.
- Hands-on experience with various technologies including single-board computers, microcontrollers, FPGAs, GPUs, CPUs, SoCs, software-defined radios, RF components, and antennas.
- Ability to interpret and understand datasheets for integrated circuits and complex components.
- Familiarity with electronic testing equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
- Experience with Linux-based systems.
- Recent involvement in projects related to space payload hardware and software, preferably in communications systems.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++, C, Python, MATLAB) is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience in programming microcontrollers and integrating hardware and software systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with FPGA programming (VHDL or Verilog) and Altera or Xilinx FPGAs is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, including fluency in Linux, Windows, and Mac OSX, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
