Laboratory Specimen Processor

The Specimen Processor will be responsible for receiving, opening, and verifying specimens in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and open specimens delivered to the laboratory for analysis.
- Review and document the acceptability of specimen and chain of custody forms.
- Assign laboratory accessioning numbers and aliquot specimens.
- Discard specimens as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation.
- Clean and maintain the work area daily.
- Maintain department inventory.
- Assist the Sample Handling area.
- Prepare samples for shipment.
- Ensure adherence to all security procedures to protect donor information.
The Specimen Processor may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, fumes, loud noises, and blood-borne pathogens. The ability to work under stress and in a fast-paced environment is essential. Emergent situations may require extended working hours or infrequent weekend work.
Requirements- High school diploma.
- Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds.
- Ability to have full body movement.
- Ability to cope with stress due to production obligations.
- Ability to read and comprehend Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and supervisors.
- Ability to provide input and recommendations on operations.
- Basic computer skills.
