You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and serve as a Medical Support Coordinator (Plasma Center Nurse) to enhance plasma center functions.

You will assess donor eligibility for plasma donation, manage donor adverse reactions, review laboratory test outcomes, and inform donors of any unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Coordinator (Plasma Center Nurse) operates under the supervision of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational direction and under the oversight of the Center Physician for medical matters. The Medical Support Coordinator will be knowledgeable about the regulations governing the plasma collection sector or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Coordinator adheres to the guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and offers center-level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Key Contributions

  • You will evaluate donor eligibility, which includes managing informed consent, providing AIDS education, conducting confidential self-exclusion, performing medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results.
  • You will assess donor reactions occurring at the facility in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). You will follow relevant SOPs for medical emergencies, including the establishment of standing orders from the Center Physician and facilitating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • You will consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when needing to communicate unacceptable findings to donors or seeking guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • You will assist with the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination initiatives for employees as applicable.
  • You will oversee employee incidents and determine if further evaluation is necessary by occupational health or emergency response. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
  • You may serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized educational nursing program meeting state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Successfully complete the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Coordinator.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital environment.
