POSITION SUMMARY:

As a key member of the PPEP Inc Migrant Education Program (MEP) team, the Migrant Advocate is responsible for executing the objectives and strategies outlined in the PPEP Inc Migrant Education Program Plan.

The primary focus of this role is to deliver continuous academic assistance, resources, and effective communication to migratory students and their families, along with other educational stakeholders.

This position also collaborates with the Migrant Program Coordinator to compile and maintain necessary documentation, works alongside the Data Clerk for data collection, and assists the Migrant Recruiter and Parent Liaison in identifying and enrolling migrant children in the program while promoting active participation of migrant parents, families, and the community in educational activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide information on supplemental services available to migratory children to the Migrant Data Clerk.
  • Develop Individual Learning Plans for each migratory student to assess needs and deliver appropriate services.
  • Organize family literacy resources, outreach initiatives, training sessions, and local and statewide Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings aimed at empowering parents and families to engage actively in their children's education.
  • Coordinate supplemental instructional and support services, including the provision of materials, supplies, and transportation.
  • Conduct visits to homes, workplaces, or school sites to assess student needs and facilitate appropriate referrals for services.
  • Tutor students at school locations, before or after regular school hours, during summer, and inter-sessions, documenting student needs prior to tutoring.
  • Oversee the tutoring program, including contracts, student selection, and tutor evaluations.
  • Act as a liaison between students, counselors, and teachers, addressing student concerns and needs with school staff to ensure that expressed needs are met.
  • Coordinate career exploration activities for migratory students, such as trips, presentations, and FAFSA nights.
  • Deliver presentations to parents, school districts, and community groups regarding the Migrant Education Program and available resources for migratory students.
  • Regularly distribute a list of all eligible migrant students to administrators, guidance counselors, and classroom teachers for referral purposes.
  • Assist the Senior Recruiter with the completion and logistics of ID&R within schools as requested by the Migrant Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Migrant Program Coordinator.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Enjoy working with a diverse population of families and community members.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, internet, and email applications.
  • Possess a Class I FBI Fingerprint (Identity Verified Prin) and Background Clearance Card.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and clearance/approval from corporate auto insurer.
  • Any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Reliable transportation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Two or more years of experience working with a school or community-based migrant education program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
