Position Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist/Wake Forest University School of Medicine is seeking an Academic Faculty Physician to enhance the Glaucoma Division.

Qualifications for Candidates:

  • MD or MD/PhD degree
  • Board certification or eligibility in ophthalmology
  • Completion of a fellowship in medical and surgical glaucoma
  • Unrestricted medical licensure in North Carolina or eligibility for licensure

Department Insights:

The Department of Ophthalmology at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist comprises 23 faculty members working in a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. The glaucoma division is staffed by three glaucoma specialists and one faculty member with expertise in pediatric and pediatric glaucoma. Our department has seen consistent growth in both clinical and surgical volumes, justifying the recruitment of a full-time surgical glaucoma specialist.

Currently, our department trains four ophthalmology residents each year, along with three vitreoretinal fellows and one cornea fellow. We also anticipate the addition of a glaucoma fellow in the near future. Faculty members have numerous opportunities to engage in the education of residents and medical students, as well as participate in clinical research and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Our department is deeply committed to community service, with faculty, residents, and medical students actively involved in international outreach trips and local health initiatives.
