Position Overview
The Surgical Care Service at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is in search of a skilled and proactive Otolaryngologist.

Clinical Duties
The Otolaryngologist will provide a comprehensive range of medical, procedural, and surgical care in general Otolaryngology, primarily focusing on surgical interventions for adult patients, particularly in the area of head and neck cancer, including microvascular reconstruction.

Preferred qualifications include the ability to perform advanced endoscopic sinus surgery.

The role involves a combination of inpatient and outpatient care, participation in educational activities, and resident and medical student conferences. On-call duties are also part of the responsibilities.

Maintaining an active understanding of the patient care processes within the Veterans Affairs system and utilizing the medical center's records system (CPRS) is essential.

The Otolaryngologist is expected to adhere to Medical Center Bylaws, VHA Rules and Regulations, and be familiar with existing VA-specific clinical guidelines.

Continuous professional development and maintaining the highest standards of care across all areas of practice, including outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and surgical settings, are expected.

Additionally, the Otolaryngologist will assist patients with issues outside their specialty by coordinating with consultants and support services, ensuring effective communication for patient transfers.

Attendance at mandatory meetings and participation in focus groups is required.

In addition to delivering high-quality care, the Otolaryngologist will support educational and research initiatives, as well as the emergency preparedness objectives of the Medical Center.


Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Work schedules are subject to supervisor approval and may require flexibility based on facility and patient care needs).
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional qualifications specified in the job announcement.

Applicants who are in the process of completing training or licensure may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Current VA-employed physicians who meet the previous qualification standards at the time of their initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements for this occupation.


Basic Requirements
Citizenship:
U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA Policy.
Education:
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
Licensure:
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
Residency Training:
Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Preferred Qualifications
Board eligible or certified Otolaryngologist with the ability to diagnose and manage conditions affecting the ears, nose, sinuses, larynx, mouth, throat, and related structures of the neck and face.

Fellowship training in head and neck surgical oncology is preferred but not mandatory. Experience in advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and in-office balloon dilation is also preferred.


Physical Requirements
The role requires moderate lifting, carrying, and the ability to perform various physical activities, including standing, walking, and bending for extended periods.

Vision and hearing capabilities must meet specific standards to ensure effective patient care.

Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the appropriate authorities.
