Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Coatings Inspector to join our team in Portland, OR. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of surface preparation and coatings application techniques, materials, testing methods, coating types, inspection criteria, lab testing, and failure modes for various coatings.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive inspections of surface preparation and coating applications on structures, equipment, and components using visual observation and testing equipment to verify compliance with specified requirements, including thickness, adhesion, hardness, appearance, porosity, and coverage, as per industry standards (e.g., NACE, SSPC), project specifications, established codes, industry standards, and safety regulations.
    • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and any non-conformance issues.
    • Prepare and submit thorough reports outlining inspection findings, quality control metrics, and corrective actions taken.
    • Ensure that all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with project and regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients to address and resolve any issues related to coating quality and safety.
    • Guide field personnel, providing technical support and training as necessary.
    • Ensure that all personnel adhere to quality and safety standards, and that all work is performed in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid AMPP Certified Coating Inspectors (NACE Level 2) or equivalent certification (e.g., SSPC).
    • Minimum of 5 years of field coating quality control (QC) experience.
    • Close, color, distance, depth vision, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Strong knowledge of coating materials, application methods, inspection techniques, industry standards, codes, and regulations.
    • Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment, such as dry film thickness gauges, adhesion testers, and environmental monitoring devices.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and effectively communicate findings to various stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of the standard practices, processes, tools, equipment, and materials related coatings.
    • Work independently with limited supervision.
