Job Summary

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist will assist the Regional EH&S Manager in the management and implementation of all company environmental, health, and safety programs. This role requires a strong understanding of regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including TSCA, RCRA, DOT, HAZWOPER, HAZCom, OSHA, DPCC, GHS, and other related laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and management of the company's environmental, health, and safety programs and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's Environmental Statement and Health and Safety policies.
  • Maintain effective relations with regulators, local communities, and ensure company programs and activities are communicated as appropriate.
  • Record and investigate all accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents.
  • Organize workshops, conferences, and trainings to employees regarding environmental management and safety issues.
  • Provide information on environmental relevance by preparing charts, graphs, and presentations.
  • Research the source of pollution and determine their effects on the environment.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and interpret all applicable regulatory requirements and assure compliance.
  • Analyze data to determine its quality, validity, and scientific significance.
  • Communicate with the organization or public regarding the scientific, technical, or safety procedures undertaken.
  • Provide technical guidance and support coordination regarding various safety issues.
  • Translate all relevant regulatory requirements into workable strategies.
  • Navigate ambiguity, set priorities, manage risks, and change, and allocate resources to enhance an operational excellence environment.
  • Ensure corporate compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; interpreting standards; enforcing adherence to regulations; advising management on needed actions.
  • Coordinate external regulatory audits, perform internal audits to ensure adherence to company systems.
  • Liaise and negotiate with regulatory authorities.
  • Compile and track all documentation for compliance with all environmental permits and required environmental activities (Waste, Recycling, etc.).
  • Prepare all Environmental permits, and submittals with HSE manager for Federal, State, and Local agencies.
  • Complete all required sampling for waste characterization, waste disposal, and special sampling that is required environmentally throughout the facility.
  • Improve internal awareness of regulatory issues.
  • Design and implement training programs divisionally to continuously improve regulatory performance measured using KPIs.
  • Assist the Regional EH&S Manager to ensure environmental compliance to ISO 14001 (or equivalent).
Requirements
  • 4-year degree in Environmental Compliance, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other Environmental Related Field, or a minimum of an Associate degree outside Environmental with at least 2 years' experience in Environmental role in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Working knowledge of federal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of state and local environmental laws and regulations relating to air, waste, and water.
  • Computer proficiency in software applications required for analyzing, monitoring, reporting, and presentations (Windows Office, Outlook).
  • Physical Requirements - Climb stairs, ladders, extensive walking, respiratory fit, and handle exposures to hot/cold environments.
  • Experience with LEAN, Kaizens, Cost Reduction methods, and 5S preferred.
  • Experience leading audits.
  • Experience in ISO 14001.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, or general public.
  • Effective knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
