Able Seafarer

Grand River Navigation Company, a leading marine transportation service provider, is seeking a skilled Able Seaman to join our team.

We offer a unique opportunity for recent Maritime Academy Deck Graduates to earn their Great Lakes Pilotage and work as Deck Officers on the Great Lakes.

• Ensure safe work procedures are followed
• Assist with loading and unloading of cargo
• Perform duties in port, including line handling
• Follow instructions from the 1st Mate on various tasks, such as cleaning and maintenance
• Stand part of a Navigation Watch while underway
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Hold a valid Passport and be allowed entry into Canada
• Hold a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Able Seaman Endorsement issued by the USCG
• Hold a Transportation Worker Identification (TWIC) issued by TSA
• Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to multi-task
