Facilities Maintenance Specialist

REPORTS TO:
Maintenance Supervisor/Administrator

OBJECTIVE:
To deliver exceptional maintenance and custodial services ensuring that facilities are hygienic, welcoming, and conducive to effective learning and working environments.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Capability to operate in various environments, including elevated areas and confined spaces; to work both indoors and outdoors throughout the year, in bustling, noisy settings, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Proven understanding of techniques, materials, and tools utilized in cleaning surfaces such as furniture, floors, walls, windows, and fixtures, along with performing routine maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to ascend and work from ladders and scaffolding, and to engage in prolonged physical activities such as standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Competence in reading and adhering to instructions, working autonomously, and organizing and prioritizing responsibilities.
  • Capacity to lift and transport items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Strong personal initiative and the ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Willingness to work outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
  • Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others as part of a team.
  • Compliance with suitability criteria as mandated by applicable laws and regulations.
  • Any alternative qualifications as required by local, state, or federal laws.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exhibits commitment to the educational institution's vision, objectives, and priorities.
  • Conducts assigned maintenance tasks that ensure a balanced approach between operational needs and preventive maintenance services.
  • Completes duties in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive matters within the workplace.
  • Provides emergency maintenance services (clean-up of spills, breakages, etc.) following established protocols.
  • Monitors and reports on inventory levels of cleaning supplies and materials, making recommendations for procurement as necessary.
  • Handles, stores, and disposes of cleaning agents and chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Arranges, sets up, and repositions furniture as instructed.
  • Oversees and maintains assigned areas to ensure cleanliness, including restrooms, floors, and common areas, in line with established procedures.

  • Assists in regular inspections of facilities for safety hazards and maintenance needs, reporting issues according to established protocols.
  • Reports any incidents of vandalism, theft, or property damage.
  • Adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Performs additional job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
