Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Recreational Therapy Technician to join our team at Garfield Memorial Hospital. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating assessment, planning, and implementation of therapeutic recreational and leisure activities for patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial evaluations within 72 hours of patient admission under the direction of the Recreational Therapist.
- Provide feedback to the team regarding issues specific to leisure, re-education, and community entry.
- Utilize team members and community resources to coordinate the recreation approach that will best serve the patient.
- Plan and communicate therapeutic recreation activities to the patient and other care providers as needed.
- Document activities completed and the patient's response to those activities.
- Coordinate short and long-term goals of the patient/family to ensure a successful discharge.
- Document discharge evaluations and communicate with patient/family.
Requirements
- Current Therapeutic Recreation Technician Certification in the State of Utah.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the Recreational Therapy field.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
