Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory procedures, including emergency, routine, complex, and specialized tests in Clinical Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Immunochemistry, and Urinalysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical and non-technical duties in accordance with CAP/JCAHO regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct quality control and assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement.
  • Diagnose deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Education and/or Experience Combination: A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science or in a related science, and completion of a medical technology clinical practice program.
Working Conditions

This position is located in the Core Laboratory of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. The work schedule includes rotating weekend and holidays, and may include permanent or rotating assignments to the evening or night shifts.

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience. The selected candidate will be required to serve a probationary period and undergo a background/security investigation.
