The Senior Tax Strategist plays a pivotal role in overseeing tax compliance, strategic planning, research, and advisory services for the organization. This position is essential as the firm expands; we seek an individual passionate about defining the future of this role while delivering exceptional service to our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the coordination, preparation, and submission of the firm's federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring timely filing of income, business, sales/use, and property tax returns.
- Oversee the distribution of Schedule K-1s and quarterly tax estimates.
- Manage Pass Through Entity tax elections, including jurisdictional analysis, recommendations, implementations, and reporting.
- Assist in managing tax and corporate matters for professional corporations with partnership interests.
- Act as the primary liaison with external tax advisors, providing necessary information for the preparation of federal and state partnership tax returns and K-1s.
- Stay updated on tax regulations affecting the partnership and communicate significant developments to relevant personnel.
- Monitor potential changes in tax legislation, assess their implications for the partnership, and provide recommendations accordingly.
- Collaborate with management on tax planning strategies to mitigate domestic tax risks and implement methods to reduce tax liabilities for the firm and its partners.
- Oversee the calculation of fixed asset depreciation for tax purposes.
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax reporting and lead resolutions for any payroll tax issues concerning remote employees.
- Work closely with the Accounting team to manage and record the firm's expenses in a tax-efficient manner.
- Ensure departmental objectives are met accurately and timely, aligning procedures with the firm's goals and tax strategy.
- Serve as the primary contact for partner-related tax inquiries, providing timely support and demonstrating a deep understanding of tax reporting and planning concepts.
- Manage tax inquiries, audits, and communications with tax authorities as necessary.
- Develop and implement tax accounting methodologies and business processes.
- Drive process enhancements and maintain awareness of technological trends to boost efficiency.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and collaborate with key personnel on various special projects.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute multiple complex initiatives.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding all financial and systems-related information.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Certified Public Accountant designation is mandatory; additional professional tax certifications are a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years of tax experience is essential.
- Experience in US partnership and individual taxation, preferably within a Big 4 Accounting Firm or a National Law Firm.
- Advanced knowledge of financial operations, including proficiency in accounting software (Aderant), spreadsheets (Excel), and word processing applications.
- Demonstrated expertise in partnership taxation, professional corporations, and complex tax subjects, with the ability to simplify concepts for non-tax professionals.
- Experience with equity partners' capital, partnership accounting, and Schedule K-1 review is preferred.
- Knowledge of property, sales/use, and payroll taxes in addition to income tax is desired.
- Strong analytical skills and a meticulous, detail-oriented approach to complex tax issues are essential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to engage effectively with partners and senior management.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to meet tight deadlines are crucial.
- Ability to conduct research on tax laws and regulations across various jurisdictions and tax types.
This position is situated in a professional office setting, primarily involving sedentary work with extended periods of sitting or standing. The role may require occasional off-hour meetings and events.
