ROLE SUMMARY
The Yard Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the organization and safety of the yard, ensuring efficient operations at both the yard and associated off-site locations. This position involves various responsibilities related to yard management, including adherence to occupational and environmental health and safety standards, team coordination, inventory management, and minor vehicle maintenance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage material and equipment inventory, ensuring timely restocking.
  • Oversee yard layout and equipment arrangement.
  • Maintain overall organization of the yard, including routine maintenance and cleanup.
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials from delivery trucks or company vehicles.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the workshop area: sweeping, cleaning surfaces, organizing parts, and disposing of waste.
  • Operate power-driven equipment as necessary for yard maintenance, such as leaf blowers, weed trimmers, and forklifts.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment as instructed.
  • Adhere to company and federal safety regulations, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and addressing safety concerns promptly.
  • Handle hazardous materials when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with safe and proper equipment and tool usage.
  • Understanding of materials and supplies used in heavy/highway construction preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills are essential; inventory management experience is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Capacity to work independently and manage daily tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to comprehend, follow, and relay written and verbal instructions.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Forklift certification is advantageous.
  • Mechanical aptitude is a plus.
  • Experience operating forklifts and front-end loaders is beneficial.
