About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer - Plumbing Specialist to join our team at Stantec. As a key member of our Plumbing and Fire Protection group, you will be responsible for designing and developing plumbing and fire protection systems for various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop plumbing and fire protection systems for health care, commercial, education, and laboratory buildings.
  • Assist senior engineers with engineering duties on larger complex projects to meet production deadlines and complete client projects.
  • Develop and implement engineering and design concepts for domestic water, compressed laboratory gases, purified water, sanitary and storm water collection systems, as well as wet and pre-action dry fire protection systems.
  • Engage in the development of designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  • Assist upper-level staff with developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Prepare and coordinate project specifications with construction documents.
  • Perform calculations of plumbing and fire protection elements using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Review drawings and documents for presentation and accuracy prior to submittal.
  • Utilize advanced techniques for the analysis of specialized plumbing and fire protection elements.
  • Participate in constructability review.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the plumbing and fire protection group.
  • Work on multiple projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Group Leader and/or Engineering Discipline Leader.
Qualifications
  • Requisite knowledge and application of plumbing codes.
  • Basic knowledge of the International Building Codes, Local Philadelphia Plumbing Code, and experience working with various local and state codes throughout the country.
  • General understanding of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing and fire protection systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Basic understanding of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Understanding of plumbing and fire protection engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Presentation and interview skills preferred.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the architectural and engineering industries.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Newforma, Hass Fire Protection Design Software.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering & working toward licensure. Minimum of 5 years of experience. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
