Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Greenhouse Assistant to join our team at Yavapai College. As a Greenhouse Assistant, you will play a critical role in maintaining the health and well-being of our greenhouse plants, ensuring optimal growing conditions, and providing exceptional customer service to students and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare soil, plant bulbs, seeds, and cuttings, graft and bud plants, and transplant seedlings and rooted cuttings
  • Troubleshoot problems with the facility and communicate findings
  • Spray shrubs, flowers, and plants to prevent disease and pests
  • Set up and regulate greenhouse and outdoor irrigation systems to water plants
  • Transplant trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants and prepare them for sale
  • Provide information to students and the public during student work time and tours
  • Use computers to communicate and find needed supplies
  • May operate tractors and other machinery and equipment to mow, rake, and maintain facilities
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; working towards an Agriculture Degree or Certificate preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
Working Conditions

The Greenhouse Assistant will work in a greenhouse environment with controlled temperature, ventilation, humidity, light, and water conditions. The work environment is typically quiet, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
