Overview
Advance Transit is a not-for-profit charitable organization providing free transit in Vermont and New Hampshire, aiming to reduce traffic congestion. We are seeking highly skilled Transit Drivers to transport passengers safely and efficiently.

Salary
We offer a competitive hourly wage of $25.50 per hour. In addition, new hires with a valid CDL can receive a signing bonus of $1,500. Overtime pay is also available for hours worked beyond 40 in a week, as well as for Saturday work. During training, drivers will be paid while learning the necessary skills.

Job Description
As a Transit Driver with Advance Transit, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Driving assigned vehicles over designated routes, adhering to schedules and timetables.
  • Assisting disabled passengers with wheelchair lifts or ramps, securing wheelchairs during trips.
  • Operating two-way radios to communicate with dispatchers or headquarters about delays or disruptions in service.
  • Regulating heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
  • Complying with local traffic regulations and keeping records of passenger trips.
  • Reporting any incidents, vehicle accidents, or mechanical issues to the dispatcher or maintenance department.
You will also perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections for commercial vehicles and report lost items found on the bus to headquarters.

Required Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must have a High School diploma or equivalent and hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement). You should demonstrate strong driving skills, customer service, communication, and conflict management abilities. Map reading skills, attention to detail, and basic mathematical skills are also essential. Familiarity with safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals is required, as well as computer skills involving the internet, tablets, and laptops.
