  • Examine patients, take medical histories, and make preliminary diagnoses or decide on follow-up procedures.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work, and interpret test results.
  • Identify short-term and long-term patient care issues and provide information and recommendations to implement physician directives.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, such as immunizations, injections, suturing, and wound care, and manage infections.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans, instruct and counsel patients, and record progress.
  • Prescribe medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations.
  • Triage patient calls and provide consultation.
  • Accurately and timely report all treatment and patient information into EHR.
  • Provide patient education related to condition and treatment plan.
  • Assist physicians as required for emergency treatment and more complex procedures.
  • May round with physicians or independently and participate in call rotation as required by supervising physicians.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
  • Completion of a four-year accredited physician assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training, or
  • Completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (which, in turn, requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program.
  • State accreditation based on certifying exam. Continued employment requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every 6 years.
  • Experience in orthopedic field preferred.
  • Experience with complex trauma patients preferred.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Employee is frequently required to use hands, fingers to handle or feel, as well as sit and work on a computer. Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing, and pulling are also possible physical activities that may be required when assisting with patient care. Ability to handle Light work is required (exerting up to 20 pounds).
