Overview of the Role:The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and air conditioning systems across various facilities.
Key Responsibilities:• Install, maintain, and repair environmental control systems in residential, commercial, and specialized settings, applying expertise in refrigeration principles, pipefitting, and structural design.
• Position compressor and condenser units according to specifications, utilizing hand tools and following engineering blueprints.
• Fabricate and install ductwork and chassis components using metalworking tools and welding techniques.
• Install evaporator units within chassis or air duct systems using appropriate tools.
• Cut and shape tubing to precise dimensions using specialized cutting and bending equipment.
• Thread pipes using machine or hand-threading tools.
• Connect tubing or pipes to refrigeration units using sleeves, couplings, or unions, ensuring proper soldering of joints to create a complete refrigerant circuit.
• Install expansion and discharge valves within the system.
• Connect motors, compressors, and temperature control panels to the power supply.
• Install air and water filters in completed systems.
• Test systems by injecting refrigerant and adjusting for optimal operating pressure.
• Monitor pressure and vacuum gauges, making necessary adjustments for efficient operation.
• Start units and calibrate for proper functioning of refrigeration, air conditioning, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps.
• Optimize system performance through adjustments and maintenance.
• Conduct troubleshooting and repairs on refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating systems, ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules and addressing reported issues.
• Test joints and connections for gas leaks using appropriate detection methods.
• Insulate pipes and secure them using cement or wire bands.
• Replace faulty electrical components, including breaker controls, thermostats, and wiring, using necessary tools and testing equipment.
• May perform installation and maintenance of air conditioning units of varying capacities in diverse building types.
• Undertake additional duties as required.

• Timely and efficient execution of assigned tasks.

Qualifications:
Required Experience and Skills:• Minimum of four years of experience in HVAC/R mechanical and equipment repair.
• Completion of two vocational training courses in refrigeration, air conditioning, and controls.
• Proficiency in using specialized tools for HVAC/R repair tasks.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for equipment issues. Must possess and maintain necessary hand tools.
• Valid Class 1 & 2 (and Universal if required) refrigerant certification.
• Familiarity with Windows operating systems (HVAC PRO) is a plus.
• Valid State issued driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass background checks and drug testing as required.
• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
• Must meet physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification when necessary.
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Strong communication skills suitable for a service-oriented environment.
Compensation: $46.68 per hour
