About the Opportunity

Community Support Services (CSS) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate ACT Counselor to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. This individual will provide group and individual clinical interventions for persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and co-occurring medical conditions in congruence with team fidelity standards for ACT Unit clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, stage-wise, and harm-reducing counseling services to meet the needs of clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
  • Develop and facilitate therapeutic groups to meet the needs of clients served by the ACT treatment team, with a primary emphasis on programming for older adults with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Develop and facilitate support/educational groups for clients' families.
  • Provide counseling services, office and community-based, within credentials and competency, to participants under the supervision of the Assertive Community Treatment Manager.
  • Develop the individual's service plan in accordance with established agency procedures.
  • Perform crisis resolution using the least restrictive intervention.
  • Coordinate services with other providers and consult with other treatment team members as appropriate.
  • Provide cross-training to ACT treatment teams on basic counseling interventions, skills, and communication and other topics as deemed appropriate.
  • Maintain relevant documentation in accordance with agency documentation standards.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in a Social Sciences field required.
  • LPC, LSW, or LICDC required. LPCC or LISW preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults preferred.
  • Knowledge of a variety of treatment approaches and modalities, including cognitive behavioral, trauma-informed, motivational interviewing, Wellness Initiative for Senior Education, and other evidence/research-based treatment approaches.
  • A valid Ohio driver's license and insurability through the Agency's insurance carrier required.
  • A deeply held belief in CSS's recovery-centered mission.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse challenges.
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
  • Skill in managing time and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work non-judgmentally with individuals whose behavior and belief systems are incongruent with that of society and/or your personal beliefs.
  • Perseverance in goals with individuals who may not improve or may only improve slowly.
