About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to fill the position of Kennel Shift Leader at Animal Care Services. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and assist animal care technicians and adoption counselors in daily operations
  • Train new hires and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Coordinate team member schedules and assignments, including scheduling in the event of absences or emergencies
  • Identify training needs and conduct training sessions on animal care, medication administration, and disease control
  • Perform daily rounds to ensure animal health and welfare, and authorize treatment as needed
  • Provide information to the kennel manager on animal temperament and placement options
  • Euthanize animals and prepare specimens for rabies testing when necessary
Requirements
  • One year of work-related experience, with ability to operate and care for animal control equipment
  • Ability to recognize normal and abnormal animal behavior, manage potentially dangerous animals, and respond to public inquiries
  • Proven leadership skills, with ability to motivate and manage a diverse team
  • Comfortable interacting with animals of all sizes and breeds
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, care, and welfare principles
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a related field, with one year of work-related experience and one year of supervisory experience
  • Registered Veterinary Technician certification
  • Experience managing and working with union team members
